Company Tax Registration

Appoint your Public Officer and activate your tax status.

Public Officer vs. Registered Representative

Many business owners are confused by these SARS terms. Understanding the difference is critical to getting your tax profile working.

The Public Officer

This is a legal appointment required by the Tax Administration Act. Every company must appoint a Public Officer (usually a director) who is responsible for the tax matters of the company. This person must reside in South Africa.

The Registered Representative

This is the digital status SARS grants on eFiling. Even if you are the Public Officer, you cannot file returns until SARS has verified your identity and linked you as the "Registered Rep" on their system.

We Solve the "Reg Rep" Nightmare

While CIPC issues your income tax number automatically, your company is not fully compliant until the Registered Representative status is active. We handle this frustrating process for you.

1
Verify Tax Number

We confirm the income tax number issued by CIPC and ensure it is active on the SARS database.

2
Appoint Public Officer

We assist you in drafting the resolution to legally appoint your company's representative.

3
Activate "Reg Rep" on eFiling

We submit the required biometrics/photos to SARS to activate the "Registered Representative" status on eFiling.

4
Activate Tax Types

Once the Reg Rep is active, we can turn on your CIT (Company Tax), VAT, and PAYE tax types.

Documents Required for Activation

To activate the Registered Representative status, SARS is very strict with the following:

  • COR14.3 (CIPC Registration Certificate)
  • Certified ID Copy of Public Officer
  • Photo of Public Officer (holding ID)
  • Proof of Address (Director - in own name)
  • Proof of Address (Company)
  • Bank Confirmation Letter

Common Questions about Company Tax

A Public Officer is a specific individual (usually a director) appointed by the company to be responsible for all tax matters. This person must reside in South Africa and be approved by SARS.

Yes, CIPC issues an Income Tax number automatically. However, the tax profile is dormant until you appoint a Public Officer and activate the "Registered Representative" status on eFiling.

Once we have the correct documents (certified ID, photo with ID, and proof of residence), the activation on eFiling typically takes 24 to 48 hours.
